Paulilu is the comedy team Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello. They met at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York, and have been making digital shorts together as Paulilu since 2007.
Their work has been featured in The New Yorker, Comedy Central Insider, and Time Out New York, which called their digital short The Last Supper “the funniest YouTube clip all year”. Their sketch videos have featured Jessica Alba, Melissa McCarthy, Joel McHale, Jeremy Piven, Megan Mullally, Kristin Chenoweth, Padma Lakshmi, and Vanessa Williams. They most recently wrote, directed, and produced digital shorts for the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Their latest stage creation is “The Paul Downs Syndrome”, a solo sketch show written by the duo, featuring Downs and directed by Aniello, which ran at the UCB theaters in NY and LA for a year. Part of “Best of NY Sketch” in the 2010 New York Comedy Festival and a TONY Critic’s Pick, the show earned Downs the “Best Emerging Comic” Award at the 2011 ECNYs, as well as being named one of “10 Comics to Watch” by Backstage, “30 Under 30” from Funny or Die and Splashlife, and “New Face” at the 2011 Montreal Comedy Festival.
